NINO is a dynamic and flexible office system developed during a 2 year research.
It proposes a new approach to the workstation which aims to enable chance encounters and communication.
Since the digital revolution the work environment has gone through big changes: new work dynamics and new workers typologies have appeared. Consequently the products we use at work have become more mobile and flexible. But what about our workstations? Why have they remained static and rigid?
NINO office system introduces a new mobile and multifunctional solution more suitable for the contemporary worker.
NINO is composed of a stand and satellite objects which the user can assemble as required.
NINO moves, NINO morphs. NINO does not prescribe ergonomic positions but gives the user a chance to work as he finds more adequate.
NINO does not belong to anyone. Every worker is free to use the system by placing the tools he needs, encouraging this way new encounters.
NINO can be easily set up to create social and informal scenarios as well as formal or private scenarios for focussed work sessions, according to the user’s needs. Read More

Barley Mow

I have been working with Studio Tilt to design the interiors of two important co-working spaces in London:
Enterprise House and Barley Mow.

Barley Mow is characterised by a number of new design interventions including a set of stairs/steps inspired by a theatre style bandstand, designed for people to use as a touch down work/meeting space during the day, while functioning as a seating solution for evening events in the space. Furniture were specifically designed by Studio Tilt design team with the aim of facilitating and enabling co-working activities.

Enterprise House

I have been working with Studio Tilt to design the interiors of two important co-working spaces in London:
Enterprise House and Barley Mow.
The Enterprise House is an elegant coworking space that seamlessly incorporates fixed desk coworking with touch down coworking. It was designed in parallel with the Barley Mow Club Workspace and shares many of the same TILT furniture solutions.

Fish Factory

MA Communication Design students from Central Saint Martins are collaborating with the Icelandic design team Mupimup to transform an abandoned fish factory into a Creative Centre. The Centre will provide a vibrant space to create and trade, thus revitalizing the community of Stöðvarfjörður in East Iceland, and serving as an innovative example of sustainable living both locally and abroad.

The fish factory had once been the heart of the thriving fishing industry in Stodvarfjordur but has stood empty for many years due to its faliure after the big crisis. The factory will eventually house workshops, studio spaces, a museum, café, and market. It will even retain some of its original purpose by supporting the local fishing industry.
Over the coming year the students will help create visual identity, wayfinding system and interior design to kick start the project.

Communication design for food banqueting

This project was born thanks to a cooperation with GoDesign from Interaction Design Departement of Siena University and GustoLab. It represents the encounter between technology and Slow Food. Our client asked for an interactive table delivering information about food and event location for indoor and outdoor events and cerimonies. The prime target is to involve partecipants in a more passionate way to discover food characteristics. The table has to be a point of direction, information and socialization. Our proposal is designing a sort of “roulette/table” where guests can discover new food aspects by playing together with proper “fiches”. We also included four totem with the table to provide supports for tents and gazebos in case of outdoor events.

3 mins tea set & Tweeting kettle

What if your tea break could be more than just a break?
What if the tea break could also become a moment of exchange, creativity and fun!

The 3-minutes series is a collection of tea bags composed of two different playful tea-sets and a tweeting kettle. Each one reviving the tea break in different ways!

Tea-Set 1:
This set of tea-bags invites you to relax during your tea break through simple and fun tasks!
Inside every tea bag you will find a small task to accomplish while the kettle boils!
By picking, for example, the “get fresh air” tea bag you will find a map inside for a small walk!
The “Distract yourself” tea-bag contains a sudoku to solve!
Which one will you pick? You can try your luck by spinning the wheel of fortune!

Tea-Set 2:
The aim of this set of tea-bags is to enhance communication in the office during the tea-break.
Every tea bag contains a differently coloured and shaped sticker you can write on to brainstorm your ideas, questions and thoughts and then stick them around the workplace. This way the exchange begins! Every user can contribute by adding stickers with more ideas and comments!

Tweeting Kettle
Every time the kettle is filled up with water it will randomly send invitations to colleagues for a cup of tea via twitter. The amount of colleagues invited will vary according to the amount of water in the kettle.

6th Sense

6th Sense is a smog detector that makes the user aware about the level of polluting substances in the atmosphere by changing its colour according to the amount of CO.

GREEN – 6th Sense recognize a safe area
YELLOW – 6th Sense recognize a risky area
RED – 6th Sense recommends change of area.

6th Sense is thought to promote an ecological behaviour, to improve life quality in the city, it is oriented especially to active people.
It aims to increase people’s awareness of air pollution, so it appears like an object expressing a thought. It also trains the user to take care of himself in a risky environment like the urban one.
The project was presented at Braun (Frankfurt headquarter)with positive feedback from Florian Seiffert and his team.

(CONCEPT)
Some time ago I have started to notice in many bedrooms the use of industrial/display cloth rack to replace the traditional wardrobe. This brought me to question and think about the role of the wardrobe in our bedrooms.
I have always thought about wardrobe as something bulky.
So, I started to wonder about a wardrobe that does not occupy too much space, easy to move within the house and eventually easy to move in case of a relocation.
Those people that opted for the cloth rack solution told me about the comfort they felt in rearranging furniture in the room and how much space they saved thanks to this option. Nevertheless, I felt the cloth rack was dismissing one of the main function of the wardrobe: store and protect clothes.
This is how I came up with a concept wardrobe that could be as light, cheap and easy to move as a cloth rack, but capable to perform as a furniture piece with its own aesthetic and use.

Why is the cloth rack replacing the wardrobe?
How can the cloth rack perform as a furniture piece with its own elegance and aesthetic?
How can the cloth rack protect clothes?
